BQ for the Food Bank!

I had lots of fun selling hotdogs with a beverage for $2 to people. All funds went to the Food Bank! I’m not sure how many hotdogs were sold, but it was awesome to work with all the volunteers that went. We’ll continue to volunteer because I think that they do a great job! :)

CASA

CASA is a major community-based provider of mental health services for infants, children, adolescents and their families within the Capital Region and from Central and Northern Alberta.

Fun Fact: CASA means house in Spanish! :D

I was asked to participate in the fundraiser for CASA, so after the BQ at the Food Bank, we went straight to the fundraiser. It was CRAZY, I had lots of fun but I had to change in the washrooms, it’s amazing how small a washroom can seem when you’re in a hurry. At the event, I did a small speech and after I was asked to sing, as in my speech I mention how I sang with All City Choir that practices at Victoria school.

I felt nervous singing in front of a crowd without preparing or practicing for it, but it was a good experience because it showed me that I can have fun and be confident at the same time. All of these different events that I am doing to help others are also helping me to have more confidence in myself. :)

The Chef at the Hope Mission works very hard, sometimes he cooks for 800 people a night. People like that are very dedicated and humble; someday I hope I am able to work that hard for a cause that is dear to my heart. All the staff at the Hope Mission work really hard; if you have some time or you would like to show your support, do contact the Hope Mission and ask them how you can help! :)

“The redevelopment of the Abbottsfield Recreation Centre creates a vision of a neighbourhood hub with a safe and healthy presence that fosters a strong sense of community.  The new facility will continue to afford opportunities for cultural, educational, recreational and social development for residents of Northeast Edmonton.”

The ARC Centre is a great place where people can hold their events. These events can be youth courses and any event that help out with the community. This is where I held the fundraiser that I did for Cardiac Kids for the provincials competition. I also held the anti-bullying workshop here, this is a great place to hold events! So glad that a new place will be built for the community in Abbotsfield! :)

Met some great members of our city council!! :D

I’ve been bullied, my mom has been bullied, my brother has been bullied; everyone has been bullied at one point in their life. I organize an event on bullying on April 6, 2013.  What to do when you are bullied and how you deal with it?  We had two guest speakers; one of the speakers spoke about the different kinds of bullying. Such as cyber bullying, physical abuse, and emotional bullying; I learned that even the bystanders are a part of the bullying process by not doing anything except just standing there and laughing at the victim or even just watching and not doing anything. Bullying can take place at any time and any place and we have to make sure that we point it out when it happens so that it doesn’t continue.

It is not okay to laugh at somebody just based on how they look, what they wear, what they do, what they believe in, and who they may be hanging out with. It is not okay to be physical with someone in a disrespectful manner; it is not okay to post something rude about someone on the internet. MOST IMPORTANTLY, It is not okay to treat someone who has a disability or problem that they cannot change with disrespect.  I am not perfect; you are not perfect, so why would we judge somebody on something they cannot change? Let us build up each other up, respect each other and most of all support each other’s dreams!

Andrea Isabelle De Ocampo  is a role model for me because she has gone after her dreams and made them come true. I love her fashion designs and I think that she will go far. I was really impressed with her for doing a fundraiser for YESS Center, as she fundraise for the youth. Thank you Andrea for the awesome designs for my provincial competition. Check out Andrea’s site!

And get involved with the YESS Center! There are soo many ways to help out! :)
